Fly Awake is about lucidity in the waking time. Once we are aware we are dreaming we can join together and dream a positive reality. A happy, strong community makes space and offers a sense of harmony to all inhabitants. That includes kids and elders, blacks and whites, all members of our post binary gender and sexual expression, police officers and our nonhuman residents (bugs, butterflies, birds, etc). We all share the space. Let's get along, realize our common desires for love, safety, respect, etc and have fun. Here are some ways we like to create a happy world and we invite you to join in.
Flower of Life
Here we are painting the flower of life at on the intersection of NE 12th Ave and NE Beech St. Original painting done in May 2014.
This was a magical day...over a hundred people stopped by to paint and join in the fun. Real synergy.
This project was organized by Arati, with the generous help from City Repair and the Village Building Convergence. Many people helped and many local businesses donated food and money to support the project.
Flower of Life Intersection Painting
Complete! View from above. It looks amazing. Feels pretty great too!
Laying out the Four Directions Design
Here we have most elements of the Four Directions design layed out. This design was created by Arati and was inspired by the medicines of our area and their associations with the cardinal directions. In the west we see a sketch of a life size gray whale.
Neighborhood Kids Painting the Sun Rise
Here are some kids from the neighborhood painting the sun coming up over Mount Hood in the area of the design that points east. The kids did a great job helping with the sun and stenciling birds and flowers. This intersection painting is at NE 13th Ave and NE Beech St. The goal of the Beech St. Project is to create a happy corridor with more plants for the pollinators to enjoy and beautiful street paintings and mosaics to see. There is also a small bench to stop at and chat with neighbors. The corridor connects the Albina Library, Ariadne Community Garden, and runs near Irvington Park and Two Plums Park. Prior to the Beech St Project there was already an amazing mural on the side of the library facing Beech. We have a beautiful community and beautiful street.
